I tend to drink mostly water and coffee, but there is something appealing and refreshing about a tart, cool glass of homemade lemonade. I love to have this in the fridge during the warmer months and enjoy lots of variations. It's tasty with a splash of vodka, berries, mint, basil, or the yuzu coconut water from Trader Joe's. I've been adding pineapple bubbly water and a lime lately--delicious!
Homemade Lemonade Concentrate
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 1/4 cups water
- 2 1/2 cups fresh lemon juice (about 15 lemons)
Bring sugar and water to a boil and cook until sugar is dissolved, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
Combine sugar syrup and lemon juice and store in a jar or glass bottles. (This tool is essential for juicing all those lemons!)
To serve, mix 1 part concentrate and 1 part water, or to your taste. (I like 1 part concentrate, 2-ish parts water or bubbly water.)
* Store in the refrigerator for 3 weeks or freeze for up to 6 months.
